There were a few major events taken part by LFL Prostheses Centre in 2018:
24H Run from 10 to 11 February 2018
The above-mentioned event’s organizer, Gradise has graciously invited us again to join their annual event in which LFL Prostheses Centre was the sole beneficiary of all the funds collected during the said run. The Every KM Matters programme continued to support the LFL Prostheses Centre where RM 2.40 was raised for every KM achieved by the participants. The 2018 Run was the third consecutive year that 24H Run has contributed their donations to LFL Prostheses Centre. For 2018, the event was held at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang. Based on the total mileage of 11,054.60 km covered by all the participants, the amount raised was RM 26,531.10. With the contribution of RM 1,000 by one of the participants’ daughter, the amount was increased to RM 27,531.10 but the final amount received by LFL Prostheses Centre was RM 30,024.95.
Sri Kuala Lumpur International School Charity Music Showcase 2018 on 4 August 2018
The above-mentioned event was organized by Sri Kuala Lumpur International School and led by Mdm. Anna Lee (Chairperson) and Mdm. S.K. Teoh (Stage Manager). LFL Prostheses Centre was invited to attend the event as the theme for the Charity Music Showcase 2018 was “Prosthetics”. The School decided to sponsor five patients from LFL Prostheses Centre with the proceeds from this showcase amounting to RM50,000.00. Two of LFL Prostheses Centre’s patients and recipients, namely Siti Hajjar Binti Muhammad from Kelantan and Mohamad Shazuan Aziq Bin Mustaffar from Kuantan, Pahang attended the event. The donation was presented by Sri Kuala Lumpur International School’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Hanif Merican and accepted by BUBS’s President, Bro. Keu Tien Siong, LFL Prostheses Centre’s Chairman, Bro. Chiam Swee Ann and BUBS’s Welfare Outreach EXCO, Bro. Lee Lean Hock.
Diabetic Plantar Foot Ulcer Wound Off-Loading Insole Techniques on 26 November 2018 at Hospital Sungai Buloh
LFL Prostheses Centre was invited by Dr. Akmal from Hospital Sungai Buloh again to observe the techniques and skills required for the provision of insoles (using a different method from the first training received in 2017) at the Hospital Sungai Buloh’s Rehabilitation Specialist Clinic on 26 November 2018. This is for the care of the sound limb; specifically provision of plantar wound off-loading insoles for the prevention and management of diabetic foot ulcer which are problems faced by most of our patients. The training was attended by our two technicians, Ew Chee Wat and Paramasivam Ramachindran. Our technicians have benefitted from this training and are now in the midst of making the insoles for one of our patients who is in need of the insoles due to problematic foot.
Community Service Initiative (CSI) Project by The Design School of Taylor's University – October till December 2018
The above-mentioned project was initiated by The Design School of Taylor’s University students consisting of Final Year seniors from Bachelor of Arts in Interactive Multimedia Design (IMD) and Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Communication Design (GCD), with a total of 23 students led by Ms. Erynn Tan Hui Lim. Together, they have helped LFL Prostheses Centre to design the following and also contributed RM2,300.00 for the project by printing the newly designed stationery, brochures, buntings and application forms:
Videos: Promotional/Introduction video, Socket Production Process video, Interview with Prostheses Recipients video, Interview with Volunteer Doctor
New Pamphlets/Catalogue design
New Bunting design
New Name card and New Appointment Card design
New LFL Prostheses Centre Application Form (incorporating 3 languages in one form)
